Matthew Steinfeld: "You Took the Words Right out of My Mouth...and Changed Them!"

Greek citations of the Church Fathers shed much light on the transmission history and development of the Greek New Testament. Unfortunately, there is often no explanation of the transmission history and development of the citations themselves. If the potential value of Patristic Citaitons is to be maximized, textual scholars in this field must begin to explain the development and transmission history of the Patristic text before it is used as supplimentary evidence to the New Testament text. This paper will incorporate Origen of Alexandria's citations of Galatians as an example of how the current trends in Patristic citations can misrepresent the Greek New Testament and the need for change in the use of Patristic citations.
