Christoph A. Riedweg: "The Taming of the Shrewd: Cyril of Alexandria's Against Julian newly edited and translated".

The workshop will present the final results of an international long term project (new critical edition and the first modern translations of Cyril of Alexandria's refutation of Julian's pamphlet against the Christians). Members of the group including the external collaborator Michael Schramm will illustrate the outlines of the new edition and present new insights into the structure, the date, and the Sitz im Leben of Contra Iulianum and into Cyril's use of history, his quotations of Platonic philosophers and Julian's polemical notes on Christian theological debates.
