Joost Van Rossum - Creation-Theology in Gregory Palamas and Theophanes of Nicaea, Compatible or Incompatible?

The purpose of this communication is to challenge the thesis of I.D. Polemis according to which the theology of creation in Theophanes of Nicaea (14^th century) is incompatible with that of Gregory Palamas (1296-1359). At the bottom of this discussion lies the problem of the relation between “humanist” and “palamite” (hesychast) theology.
